\u00a0The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved updated COVID-19 vaccines for all people aged 65 and older and for people under 65 with higher health risks, the U.S. health secretary said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. The three approved shots are made by Pfizer\u00a0(PFE.N), opens new tab\u00a0with German partner BioNTech\u00a0(22UAy.DE), opens new tab, Moderna\u00a0(MRNA.O), opens new tab, and Novavax\u00a0(NVAX.O), opens new tab.<\/p>\n
Pfizer said the emergency use authorization for its COVID vaccine for children under age 5 had been rescinded.<\/p>\n
Moderna’s shot was approved for ages 6 months and up, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said. Moderna was not immediately available for comment.<\/p>\n
Pfizer and BioNTech’s updated version of Comirnaty was approved for everyone 65 and over, as well as in individuals ages 5 through 64 years with at least one underlying condition that puts them at high risk for severe outcomes from COVID infection, the company said in a press release.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
